Recent surveys of younger generations have found a generational concern over affordability of homeownership, with 82% of respondents who own or aspire to own a home believing that buying a home is more difficult for their generation than for previous ones. Affordability ranked high among Gen Z adults’ broader life concerns, with 16% citing housing costs as one of their top worries.

Despite these statistics, Gen Z’s aspiration for homeownership remains strong with two-thirds (67%) saying that owning a home is an important lifetime goal, 69% viewing real estate as a path to building wealth, and 51% considering it a key part of the American dream.
