You’re eligible to join if you live, work, or attend school in Middlesex, Norfolk or Suffolk Counties, Massachusetts, or have a family member who does. FM Global employees and retirees, and Northeastern University faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, and students residing anywhere in the world are also eligible. Eligibility
Membership in the City of Boston Credit Union is open to anyone who qualifies in any one (1) of the following ways:
- Persons who attend school or live or work in Middlesex, Norfolk or Suffolk Counties, Massachusetts. The term “attend school” shall mean enrollment in:
- Any public, private, independent or religious nursery, preschool, elementary, middle, junior high, high, or preparatory school or academy;
- Any public, private, independent or religious vocational technical high school;
- Any public, private, independent or religious agricultural high school;
- Any public, private, independent, religious, not-for-profit or for-profit community college, institution, college or university for the purpose of pursuing an undergraduate or post-graduate educational degree;
- Any public, private, independent, religious, not-for-profit or for-profit law or medical school, college or university;
- Any public, private, independent, religious, not-for-profit or for-profit teachers college;
- Any public, private, independent, religious, not-for-profit or for-profit post-high school technical school;
- Any institute for the purpose of training in a new career;
- Any maritime or military academy or school; or
- Any seminary.
- Organization Members located in Middlesex, Norfolk, or Suffolk Counties, Massachusetts. For the purpose of this by-law, the term Organization Member shall mean an Organization Member, as defined in section 1 of chapter 171 of the Massachusetts General Laws or any regulation promulgated by the Division of Banks.
- Persons whose salaries, wages, compensation, pensions, or annuities which are available for payroll deduction or transfer of funds and are paid in whole or part by the City of Boston, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or any department, commission or authority, within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Employees of, and persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the employment of Factory Mutual Insurance Company (FM Global) and its subsidiaries who work in or are paid from the United States of America and its territories and possessions. A subsidiary is defined as any business entity 51 per centum or more of the voting equity interests of which are directly or indirectly owned or controlled by another business entity, or are held by it with power to vote.
- Employees, faculty and overseers of, and persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the employment of Northeastern University. An overseer of Northeastern University is defined as any member of Northeastern University Corporation, including its Board of Overseers and Board of Trustees.
- Registered students and alumni of Northeastern University.
- Employees of the City of Boston Credit Union.
- Family members of persons described in A, C, D or E may become members. A family member is defined as individuals who are related or identified as husband, wife, domestic partner (including a widow or widower), father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousin, nephew, niece, grandfather, grandmother, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother or half-sister, including adoptive relationships.
A person not so eligible for membership may be on a joint account with a member of the Credit Union for the purpose of purchasing shares and making withdrawals only.
